Tétrodon, habitat mobile

House · by Atelier d'Urbanisme et d'Architecture, Henri Ciriani, Jacques Berce · 1960

Fos-sur-mer, France

In the early 1970s, Jacques Berce and Henri Ciriani, along with Annie Tribel from the Urbanism and Architecture Workshop (AUA), developed a modular housing unit based on a standard shipping container (approximately 12 meters), which has its volume expanded with polyester shells. In 1971, a prototype of the Tétrodon was showcased in the courtyard of the Louvre. Following this exhibition, Sonacotra (National Housing Construction Company for Workers) sought a temporary housing solution for workers constructing the SOLMER coastal steel plant (Arcelor Mittal) in Fos-sur-Mer and subsequently placed an initial order for 140 units.
