Tour Totem
Collective housing · by Michel Andrault & Pierre Parat architectes · 1978
France
A residential high-rise in Paris’s Front de Seine development, built during an era of large-scale riverfront renewal. The tower’s strong geometry and repetitive facade grid express the stacked logic of apartments and standardized construction. Its vertical emphasis contrasts with the horizontal sweep of the Seine and the neighboring slab blocks, reinforcing the district’s “city of towers” character. As housing, it captures a moment when density and modernity were pursued through height, clear structure, and bold form. The building’s silhouette remains a distinctive marker of late-modern residential ambition in Paris.
