avenue du Stade, Annecy, France

In 1930, the City of Annecy recognized the need for a large sports park, initiating a preliminary project presented on June 5, 1930, and approved in 1937. The city chose architect M. Brouhana, known for his work on the Parc des Princes in Paris, but faced opposition from the Haute-Savoie architects' union, leading to a call for a regional competition. The Second World War delayed progress, but in 1943, the municipal council resumed the project in phases, starting with land acquisition. It took a decade for the city to secure the necessary plots, culminating in a competition held in 1954 to finalize the design.
