Archives départementales de l'Aude

41 avenue Claude-Bernard, Carcassonne, France

Until 2003, the departmental archives of Aude in Carcassonne were divided between two locations: one in the city center, which housed administrative functions but was inadequate and too small, and another in the Bouriette area for storage. In 1998, the Departmental Council initiated a competition for the construction of a new building to consolidate these two sites on the Grazailles plateau, which already included various public services such as the General Council and the departmental lending library. The new facility aimed to provide a more suitable environment for the archives and their operations.
