Église Saint-Jacques

Religion · by Henri Castella · 1967

rue Louis-Pergaud, Carcassonne, France

In the 1950s and 1960s, Carcassonne, like many medium and large cities in France, faced population growth due to the post-war baby boom and the influx of repatriates from Algeria. To meet the demand for modern comforts, which were lacking in the older city center neighborhoods, the city decided to develop land to the west of the town around the Saint-Jacques farm to accommodate 3,000 lower-income residents. Architect Henri Castella was commissioned to design this new neighborhood, which was constructed between 1957 and 1972.
