Gymnase des Serres
Culture · by Tarbouriech Christiane, Pierre Tarbouriech · 1974
25 rue des Études, Carcassonne, France
In the late 1960s, the municipality initiated the construction of various new sports facilities to support the growth of local handball and basketball clubs, while also serving schoolchildren. Due to limited available land in the bastide, the site designated for the new elementary school and gymnasium was occupied by the municipal greenhouses, located on the former grounds of the Grand Seminary. Architects and urban planners Christiane and Pierre Tarbouriech, trained at the Ecole spéciale d'architecture in Paris, were responsible for the comprehensive restructuring of the entire block, including the gymnasium and school.
