32-35 rue André-Audoli, Marseille 10e Arrondissement, France
The landscape quality of the hills in Marseille has long been recognized and protected in urban planning policies. The hillside terrains are designed for densification through concentrated building in the foothill areas. Strict density regulations allow for a significant population, yet maintain natural areas along Mont Rouvière. In the early 1960s, architect Claude Gros was commissioned by departmental advisor Xavier Arsène-Henry to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses these dynamics and the balance between built and natural environments.
