Between 1962 and 1965, the Second Vatican Council, known as Vatican II, aimed to help the Catholic Church engage more with the modern world and contemporary progress. Significant liturgical reforms were implemented to bring clergy closer to the congregation, which led to the commissioning of "new" churches. This was particularly relevant in rapidly growing urban areas. In Marseille, the southern districts of Sainte Marguerite, Redon, and Rouvière were experiencing substantial expansion, with thousands of new housing units constructed between 1955 and 1975, reflecting the demographic changes of the time.
