Chapelle de la Transfiguration
Religion · by Mattio Jean-Gérard · 1967
182 Rue Francis Garnier, Toulon, France
The Chapelle de la Transfiguration is one of the first five churches from the Var diocese's New Churches program initiated in 1964 by a Laity Committee focused on managing the material and financial aspects of construction. This new place of worship replaces a small chapel that was no longer adequate for the expanding lower Faron neighborhood. The land is owned by the diocese, and the financing was entirely provided by the parishioners of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in the same neighborhood. Father Eouzan, the parish priest, suggested the involvement of architect Jean-Gérard Mattio for the chapel's design. The site also includes an old blockhouse referred to as an "abri" in the specifications.
