Cité-jardin des Bords de Loire
Urban planning · by Caignart de Mailly Hector · 1926
avenue Proudhon ; rue du Docteur-Chaumier, Tours, France
The Cité-jardin des Bords de Loire was initiated by the municipality of Tours after World War I to provide housing for low-income populations. In 1921, the Municipal Office of Low-Cost Housing organized a competition in 1927 for the construction of a second garden city, following the completion of the Cité Belle. Hector Caignart de Mailly's project was selected, building on his extensive experience in garden city design. Construction began in the fall of 1928 and was completed during the winter of 1930-1931. This development reflects the city's commitment to affordable housing solutions in the post-war era.
