29 rue Walvein ; 43-53 rue de l’Hospitalité, Tours, France
During the Trente Glorieuses period, Tours experienced a significant surge in housing construction, particularly in social housing, mirroring trends seen in other major French cities. Large complexes consisting of thousands of apartments were developed in the northern area and along the Cher Valley. However, from the early 1970s onwards, there was increasing skepticism from both residents and local officials regarding the high-rise and slab-style urban planning model. Concurrently, the growth of suburban single-family homes and property ownership among higher-income tenants eased the demand for social housing, leading to a dramatic reduction in the annual construction rate by the municipal housing office.
