Cité-jardin Jolivet
Urban planning · by Maurice Boille · 1930
Rue Couvrat-Desvergnes ; rue de la Marne ; rue Jean-Moulin ; place du 8-Mai-1945, Tours, France
In the aftermath of World War I, the municipality of Tours initiated the construction of housing for low-income populations. In early 1930, the city planned to allocate land in the Jolivet and Beaujardin neighborhoods for working-class family housing. Collaborating with railway companies, Tours commissioned architect Maurice Boille for the design of a garden city. Boille’s project was adapted from a previous competition submission. Construction of the Cité-jardin began in February 1932 and was completed one year later.
