Cœur Défense

Office · by Jean-Paul Viguier · 2001

France

The complex is conceived as a small piece of city: multiple volumes are linked by internal 'streets' and a large atrium that functions like an indoor square. Rounded corners soften the scale of the massive floor area, while large windows and coordinated blinds give the facade a controlled, unified reading. The plan deliberately offsets the main towers so daylight can reach more of the site and interior spaces. What could have been sheer bulk is instead articulated into a legible cluster—more campus than single tower.
