Conservatoire

Education · by Roubert Jean-Loup, Henri Dumont, Jacques Bléhaut · 1994

20 rue Gambetta, Reims, France

Inaugurated in September 1994, the Conservatoire features an 80-meter façade with a sinusoidal curve reminiscent of a violin. Architects Jean-Loup Roubert, Henri Dumont, and Jacques Bléhaut skillfully combined materials, incorporating glass, metal, and light-colored stone in a layered design. Inside, wood is emphasized for its acoustic and aesthetic qualities, with oak flooring, ash acoustic panels, and beech-framed seating. The 13,225-square-meter facility is organized around a central patio and integrates seamlessly into the urban landscape, enhancing the public space in front through the removal of cylindrical building elements and providing tiered seating in the rear courtyard.
