École des Violettes

Education · by Jean Henin · 1936

260 rue Fricotelle, Saumur, France

The construction of the École des Violettes was planned in 1935, with the architect tasked to design a kindergarten and children's school featuring four classrooms, essential facilities, a solarium, and staff housing. The construction site opened in August 1936, with masonry work assigned to local company Pierre Bellati. On November 15, 1936, during a visit to social and educational works in Saumur, Alice Jouenne, director of the cabinet of the Deputy Secretary of State for Public Health, laid the school's foundation stone. This event marked a notable moment, as it was attended by one of the first three women in a French government, before women received the right to vote.
