École élémentaire de garçons ; école maternelle

Education · by Bourély André-Louis, Paul Manaut, Gisclard-Cau Yvonne, Yencesse Hubert, Savy Max · 1956

2 rue des Écoles, Sigean, France

The project for a combined boys' elementary and nursery school began in the early 1950s, notable for being an uncommon initiative, as nurseries were typically associated with girls' schools. The design includes a comprehensive medical service area, featuring a waiting room, changing booths, a doctor's office, and a room equipped with water and a treatment table, intended for all students in the city. Architect Henri Gibert initially led the project but passed away, leading to André-Louis Bourély's appointment in June 1951. His design was approved by the municipal council on November 20, 1951, although the land acquisition, which consisted of a vineyard near the historical center, was still unresolved by January 1952.
