Église paroissiale Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes
Religion · by Georges Salomon · 1937
rue Pierre-Didier, Romans-sur-Isère, France
Until 1864, Romans developed within its ramparts around a small chapel dedicated to Saint-Nicolas. The arrival of the railway line between Valence and Chambéry prompted residents to relocate north and east towards the train station, creating a need for a new church. In 1883, the Diocese acquired a large parcel of land, but construction was delayed. In 1932, a small chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes was established in a former hangar. It wasn't until 1937, with the new parish priest's encouragement, that construction projects began, with five different architectural designs presented to the parishioners.
