Grand-Passage, Tours, France

In the 1950s, France, heavily impacted by World War II, needed to undergo rapid reconstruction. Modernism, hygienism, and serial construction became prominent architectural trends, championed by figures such as Le Corbusier and Henri Sauvage. A pivotal moment occurred in September 1947 with a special issue of Architecture d’Aujourd’hui focused on Brazilian architecture, which significantly influenced the beliefs and practices of many architects. This was the first publication in France dedicated to a foreign country, providing a comprehensive overview of Brazilian architecture from 1935 to 1947, including a feature on Oscar Niemeyer's Pampulha resort, complemented by an exhibition organized by the architect.
