Grand Hôtel
Commerce · by Maurice Boille · 1927
9 place du Général Leclerc, Tours, France
The development of Tours between the two World Wars was spurred by increased tourism, supported by improved road and rail infrastructure and the wealth of architectural heritage in the Loire Valley. In response to the emergence of tour operators and a wealthy clientele seeking comfortable accommodations in contemporary styles, businessman Paul Bernheim commissioned architect Maurice Boille in 1924 to design a luxury hotel. Located in the city's commercial center, the Grand Hôtel faces the train station, which was rebuilt a quarter-century earlier by Victor Laloux, Boille's former mentor.
