The Anatole-France school group in Tours was reconstructed after sustaining damage during World War II, under the direction of chief architect Pierre Patout, who favored a monumental architectural style reminiscent of late Art Deco while utilizing local materials such as limestone and slate. The project was executed by a team of local architects led by Henry Lhéritier de Chézelle, on a site previously used by the military, featuring over a hundred meters of façade along the Loire River. Planning for the school began in 1952, construction commenced three years later, and the building was inaugurated in 1957.
