Hall des voyageurs et tour d'horloge de la gare SNCF

Infrastructure · by Paul Peirani · 1937

avenue de l'Union Soviétique, Clermont-Ferrand, France

The modernization of the Clermont-Ferrand train station was initiated in February 1935, motivated by the city's population growth from 38,160 residents in 1856 to 101,128 in 1936. The existing station, operational since 1855, was deemed inadequate. The construction commenced with a long walkway above the tracks, connecting the passenger building to the platforms and Avenue Anatole-France (September 1935 - August 1936). Additionally, the existing metal and glass hall covering the platforms was dismantled and replaced with reinforced concrete canopies, enhancing the station's functionality and aesthetic appeal.
