Title: Reconstruction of the Village After 1945
Author: Stoskopf Charles-Gustave et al.
Year: 1946
Address: Ammerschwihr, France
Until the late 19th century, the walls defined the boundary of Ammerschwihr, with few buildings outside. Following World War II, over two million structures in France were damaged or destroyed, including 85% of Ammerschwihr due to bombings. Until 1944, the town reflected its prosperous history and viticultural activities. In response to the devastation, Mayor Philippe Rieder approved a reconstruction project and established a municipal reconstruction committee on March 21, 1947. This committee included key local officials dedicated to overseeing the rebuilding efforts.
