Boucicaut Mixed Social Program
Social welfare · by Atelier d’Architecture Brenac&Gonzalez · 2009
France
Part of the broader conversion of the former Boucicaut hospital site into an eco‑district, this project mixes housing with social support and everyday services. Two buildings help define the street edge while opening onto gardens and small public squares within the block. The program combines social apartments with a shelter component and ground‑level retail, aiming to keep the neighborhood active beyond office hours. Rather than a single monolithic volume, the massing is broken to negotiate scale and bring light into inner courtyards. Landscape and pedestrian routes become as important as the buildings themselves, turning a former institutional enclave into a lived‑in piece of city.
