Tour Hertzienne, dite tour de Romainville
Infrastructure · by Claude Vasconi, Austasie Michel assistant · 1982
rue de la Résistance, Lilas (Les), France
The Hertzian relay tower, constructed in 1961 at the ORTF studios in Buttes-Chaumont, became insufficient for radio communication needs. Consequently, on March 3, 1978, the Ministry of Equipment authorized the construction of a new antenna within the fort of Romainville, located in Les Lilas. This site offers a larger and more secure alternative to the previous Paris location. The French Hertzian network saw significant expansion beginning in the 1950s, achieving national coverage by the 1970s, coinciding with the widespread acquisition of televisions in French households. Romainville's hilltop, reaching 131 meters, is the highest point in the Île-de-France region, situated just 10 km from central Paris.
