Villa Espel
House · by Maurice Abelanet · 1965
1 avenue de la Côte-Vermeille, Perpignan, France
The villa draws inspiration from the works of Richard Neutra, particularly the Kaufmann House and Singleton Residence. Designed by architect Maurice Abelanet for a client passionate about modern architecture, the structure features a concrete frame clad in high-quality wood and stone, contrasting sharply with the white-rendered surfaces. These materials are also present in the interior. The ground floor serves as a base for the upper level, which houses the living spaces. This effect is enhanced by the prominent overhang of the gallery, which runs the entire length of the south-facing main facade and wraps around to the east side, leading to a secondary external spiral staircase.
